One of our best tools to improve water quality is the installation of best management practices (BMPs). BMPS are used in a variety of projects ranging from agriculture, storm water management, and erosion and sediment control. BMPs for stream conservation usually fall within the agricultural category, and typically include:
– Riparian Forest Buffer plantings
– Stabilized Stream Crossings
– Fish Habitat and Bank Stabilization Structures
– Livestock Exclusion Fencing
The Mifflin County Conservation District focuses on completing comprehensive stream buffer projects that address all stream related issues. These projects often include a suite of BMP installations that achieve optimal improvements for the environment and meet the goals of the landowner.
