The Mifflin & Juniata Conservation Districts sponsor the Envirothon, an environmental education competition for senior high students that tests their knowledge in natural resource issues. The Envirothon is held across Pennsylvania, and the winning team from each county goes on to the State Competition, and from there to the Cannon Envirothon, which is a North American Competition. It teaches students to learn, interpret, and apply environmental, conservation, and scientific principles to solve real natural resource and land use problems. Each year the Envirothon is made a success by the the involvement of participating agencies that include: USDA-NRCS, DEP, DCNR-Bureau of Forestry, PA Game Commission, and the PA Fish & Boat Commission. Each year the students are tested in soils and land use, aquatic biology, forestry, wildlife, and this year’s current issue. For more information, please visit the PA Envirothon Website.
